A Synod Discussion Asks the Question: What Is Mercy? | Bondings 2.0

Continuing his daily reports from the Family Synod, Francis DeBenardo begins with some observations from the Vatican press briefings on the small group discussions about “mercy”. Later, he moves on to part II of the Instrumentum Laboris, which described the value of the family. He ends his post with this important observation (which has frequently occurred to me as I read similar descriptions of “family” coming from Catholic bishops):

What struck me as I listened to all these descriptors of the family is that they are all describe families I have met that have LGBT members either as sons and daughters or as the heads of the household. In describing the vocation of family, the bishops are describing the characteristics of ALL families, regardless of the sexual orientation or gender identity of their members.  I hope that they recognize that even in their own thinking, the issue of procreation and the concept of gender complementarity are
